This is my absolute favorite publishing line of horror. If anyone has ever read my work, you can probably see the influence.

Has anyone read any good books from the (now deceased) Abyss line?

If so, share your thoughts.

Ah, the old imprint from the 80's, right? I'm sure I have, unfortunately, all names escape me at the moment. But you've inspired me to go on a googling search to find out what books are still being offered and from where!

Yes, the line was about late 80's to 1998 to be exact. Such a brilliant line. Fuck man, I want those kinds of books back !

Kathe Koja's _Skin_ was brilliant.

Indeed she is, or was...She's writing Young Adult stuff now. I picked up The Blue Mirror and enjoyed it well enough, but it's not as good as her earlier horror stuff. :)

She put out a new adult book last year called "Under The Poppy."  It certainly doesn't touch the nerve of The Cipher of Skin, but it's still pretty well written.

The only Abyss title I've read is The Cipher, which I specifically sought out.

The first Koja novel I read was 'Skin' and it just blew me away. She's an astoning writer. I'm in awe of her. So then I read Bad Brains and picked up that short story collection of hers that I can't remember the name of.

And THEN I ordered Cipher, which was beautifully presented by Abyss, with a list of their other launch titles which all sounded great. I've been meaning to search out a few of them but haven't managed to track down yet.

Still, though, it looked like a great publisher. Like they were devoted to seeking out new horror that wasn't just scary, but totally original and unique. There's just no mainstream publishers like that around anymore.
