SEASONS IN THE ABYSS- Deadline 9/25/10
SEASONS IN THE ABYSS - Flash Fiction Anthology
Welcome to Seasons in the Abyss where horror is always in the forecast regardless of the time of year. We’re looking for flash fiction revolving around one of the four seasons (summer, spring, winter or fall). Authors may submit up to 4 stories (one per season). Stories must fit into the genre of horror and the season must be integral to the plot in some way. As always, be creative. Summer horror tales don’t have to just be about hot weather. They can encompass BBQ’s, catching fireflies, long days at the beach, children on school break, etc. The one exception is seasonal holidays. If you have a good idea for a holiday story save it for our Holidays of Horror anthology.
We prefer stories to be 750 words or less although we will consider fiction up to 1,000. 1 K is firm though, we won’t accept anything longer. We are looking for around 25 stories per season.
Reading period starts Feb. 1, 2010 and will remain open until April 28, 2010. Please do not send stories until Feb. 1st, 2010. Only unpublished stories may be submitted. Use standard manuscript formatting. No simultaneous submissions. No multiple submissions for the same season.
Send submissions to theresa@bloodboundbooks.net Please put the season of your story in parentheses along with the title and name in subject line : (season you wrote about):Title/Last name
Payment: We are offering another pro paying contest. The top story from each season will receive .05cent per word. All runners up will receive publication in the paperback anthology.
Glad everyone's excited! I dig flash too. Hopefully this will be the first of many Flash anthologies
I like this idea.
Good title (Slayer!).
Thank you! After Jessy and I talked about the seasons theme, I couldn’t help but throw a little Slayer in there. If you’re into music keep your eyes peeled later in the year for a Rock Anthology I’m planning with the help of Adam Blomquist.
So when you say no multiples for the same season, I'm going to gather that it's fine to submit one for each season, as long as you don't overlap in any way? Is that right?
Lotsaluv, Em
Yep, you got it. 1 for Summer, 1 for Fall, etc.
I just finished a bloody good story for spring. I've also got a killer idea for summer that I will have to entertain.

Nice!
How about fireflies catching me?
Role reversal, could be a good sci-fi idea. I'd definitely take a look at it.

I like this idea. Incidentally, I wrote my summer story with a bit of a firefly twist.
Just sent out a summer and a spring story. I'm still working on the two remaining seasons.
Thanks Robert. I just received them.
The deadline is creeping up. I have my winter story finished and ready to sub. My fall story is partially written on a piece of paper, and I hope I didn't leave it in the hotel room in Vegas last weekend. I think it's in a book. I'll have to find it and get crackin' if I want to make the deadline.
Good luck to all who have submitted!
Vegas, eh? Business or pleasure?
Try to get it in by the deadline, but I think the DL might be extended on this one. We won't start reading until May, but just by the emails we've received some seasons are saturated with subs while others are pretty meager. This off balance may change by deadline though, so I can't promise anything yet.
Holidays of Horror is experiencing a similar effect. There is about four or five holidays that people just seem to love. We may have to change these to open until filled and post what areas are still open.
I will let everyone know.
Las Vegas was a trip for pleasure. My wife and I left our son with my parents and had a damn good time in sin city.
I imagine summer and winter are popular seasons, as well as Halloween and Christmas for the holiday anthology.
